Board member Jim Dix has recently moved out of the school district, and therefore is unable to finish out about 1 1/2 years of his term. Candidates interested in filling out Dix’s term should get papers turned in by Dec. 15. The vacancy needs to be published in two newspapers serving the district turned .A previously requested and discussed possibility of co-opting with Wautoma for a Cheer Team was mentioned again, and a cooperative agreement was approved for the two school districts.

The Board considered a leave of absence request from Nicole Strasser. She’s able to teach virtually and provide lesson plans for the brief period requested for, as well as be available by phone for the subs.

The Board reviewed the adjusted 2020-2021 budget, levy, and tax rate before approving the $6,333,121 budget.

The Board reviewed the spectator attendance at the fall co-curricular activities, and it was pointed out that the district can allow three tickets per cast and crew member for attendance at the fall musical. That’s part of the measures being taken because of the COVID-19 concerns. That met with the Board’s approval.

The Board also approved the start up of the winter co-curricular activities as scheduled, with similar COVID-19 protocols used for the fall activities.

An update on how the school year is progressing with the concerns regarding COVID-19 cases was given. There had been six COVID cases with everyone having recovered, except for a new case in the elementary grades.

There was also talk about having an early release time in order to allow for more preparations to teach three different ways. Every one has been under such stress because of COVID-19 concerns, and the need for each student to receive proper instruction. Information regarding the early release was to go out to the students.

The next Board meetings are scheduled to take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, and immediately following the 7:30 p.m. Scholarship Foundation meeting on Thursday, Dec. 10.
