County holds two jury trials, resulting in verdicts of not guilty in both trials

  Ralph L. Schimelpfenig, Wautoma, was in court on Aug. 6 on a count of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault. 8:35 a.m. Jury brought to the courtroom and voir dire begins. Entire panel sworn. Court questions jurors. 9:23 a.m. Peremptory Strikes. 9:31 a.m. Impaneled Jury sworn. Other jurors excused from the courtroom. Jurors admonished regarding rules during trial and returned to court room 9:59 a.m. Exhibits and testimonies given. 2:27 p.m. Instruction conference held. 2:31 p.m. jury returned to the courtroom. Defense rests. Court closes evidence. 2:33 p.m. Jury instructions read. 2:43 p.m. closing arguments. 3:28 p.m. Jury begins deliberations. 5:56 p.m. case recalled, same appearances. Court reads the verdict – Not Guilty. Counsel does not wish to poll the jury. Court discharges the jury and thanks them for their service. Court orders judgment of dismissal with prejudice. Court orders the defendant to pay attorney fees and is to be paid within 60 days or payment plan.

Steven Rashard Jordan, Bosobel, was in court on Aug. 9 and 10 on a count of Conspiracy to Commit Battery to a Prosecutor, a count of Solicitation to Commit Battery or Threat to a Prosecutor, and a count of Solicitation to Commit 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide. Jury brought to courtroom 8:51 a.m. on Aug. 9. Entire panel sworn. Voir dire begins. Jury admonished by the Court regarding responsibilities during the trial. 10:24 a.m. court recesses. 10:40 a.m. case recalled, same appearances. Jury hears testimonies from witnesses. 4:07 p.m. Witness returned to stand. Jury returned to the courtroom. 4:11 p.m. witness excused. Jury enters the room 8:06 a.m. on Aug. 10. More testimonies heard. Jury has reached a verdict. 5:19 p.m. Aug. 10, Court recalls case, same appearances outside the presence of the jury. Jury finds the defendant Not Guilty to Count 1, Not Guilty to Count 2, and Not Guilty to Count 3. Court polls the jury; each juror confirms the verdict of the jury and the verdict of the jury as a whole. Court thanks the jury for their service and excuses them from the courtroom at 5:26 p.m. Court grants judgment of acquittal as to all three counts and will release the defendant from any conditions of bond. Court adjourns at 5:28 p.m.

Peter A. Idsvoog, Wautoma, was in court on Aug. 4 on a count of OWI (6th) and a count of Operating w/ PAC (6th). The Court finds probable cause. An arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 1.

Devin M. Berg, Wautoma, was in court on Aug. 4 on a count of Battery by Prisoners and three counts of Bail Jumping-Felony. Court orders $5,000 Sig Bond. STC Scheduled – NOH Given. Court enters Riverside Ruling in favor of the State. A status conference is scheduled for Sept. 15.

Logan L. Dahlquist, Redgranite, was in court on Aug. 4 on a count of Reckless Driving-Cause Great Bodily Harm. The defendant must maintain absolute sobriety, may not be present upon the premises of any bars, and is prohibited from possessing/ingesting any impairing substance that have not been prescribed by a physician. Court orders $1,000 Cash Bond. IA Scheduled – NOH Given. Court enters Riverside Ruling in favor of the State. An initial appearance is scheduled for Aug. 27.

Santiago Salgado, Wautoma, was in court on Aug. 5 on a count of Repeated Sexual Assault. Discussion between court and counsel regarding adjournment request. Court makes statement regarding non-fact witness and adjournment of trial. Court finds the defendant is responsible for reimbursement for interpreter fees-non-refundable fees to be paid by Oct. 1. Court questions defendant regarding speedy trial demand. Defendant understands the trials adjournment and withdraws the speedy trial date. Court reschedules jury trial and sets deadlines for motions. Defense motions along with any doctor reports are to be filed by Nov. 15. State motions and reports to be filed by Dec. 15. Final PTC rescheduled to Jan. 14, 2022 at 9:00 am. Jury Trial scheduled March 9-11, 2022.
