Waushara County Public Health, in partnership with Family Health La Clinica, will hold two additional weekend walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinics in May: Saturday, May 8, at Parkside School, 300 16th Ave. in Wautoma and Saturday, May 15, at Wild Rose Elementary School, 825 Mt. Morris St. in Wild Rose. These clinics will have the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine available from 8:30 a.m. through 4 p.m., or until the vaccine supply is gone. The vaccine will be provided at no cost and no appointment is needed. For those who would like the two-dose Moderna vaccine, please call Waushara County Public Health at 920-787-6590 to schedule. Both vaccine options are for anyone aged 18 years old and up.

“In agreement with federal guidance we have returned to use of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine in Waushara County,” states Javier Rincon, Chief Medical Officer for Family Health La Clinica. “All of the rare adverse events with this vaccine occurred in women younger than age 50. For this group, there are other vaccines available. Still the FDA and the CDC stress that the benefits of vaccination offset possible risks. No matter what vaccine you choose, getting vaccinated is a vital step in combating this pandemic.” Family Health La Clinica has vaccine appointments available Tuesday through Friday with extended hours on Thursdays. Call 920-787-5514 to schedule.

“Waushara County has a much lower vaccination rate than surrounding counties and this is very concerning,” says Patti Wohlfeil, Waushara County Public Health Officer. “While we are not sure why our numbers are so low, we do know that to protect yourself and those around you it is essential that everyone get vaccinated against COVID-19. To help with vaccine access we are holding these Saturday clinics and several other weekday evening vaccine clinics around the county. All these dates will offer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.”

For those who would like the two-dose Moderna vaccine, Waushara County Public Health is taking appointments Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Call 920-787-6590 to schedule.

The weekday evening clinics will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in May from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. These are walk-in clinics, so no appointment is needed and there is no cost to be vaccinated. The Wednesday, May 5 clinic will be at the Coloma Village Hall, 155 N. Front St. in Coloma. Wednesday, May 12 will be at Plainfield Trucking, 818 W. North St. in Plainfield. Tuesday, May 18 will be at the Hancock Community Center, 420 N. Jefferson St. in Hancock. Tuesday, May 25 will be at First Lutheran Church, W2314 Prospect St. in Poy Sippi.

There are now many options to get the COVID-19 vaccine at no cost with no waiting. You can choose to be vaccinated locally through Waushara County Public Health, Family Health La Clinica, or at any of the scheduled vaccine clinics listed above.
