Information on Your Waushara County

Community Gardens and Access to Fresh Produce

Waushara County has been involved in a number of projects to ensure that people have access to food in Waushara County.  University of Wisconsin-Extension Waushara County teaches how to meet food and nutritional needs on a budget at food pantries, schools, CAP Services programs, and other venues in the county.

In addition, UW-Extension teaches programs about food preservation (canning and freezing) and food preparation at county libraries and other locations and tests household canning equipment.

For more information about these programs, contact Mary Ann Schilling or Zina Soltis at UW-Extension Waushara County at 920-787-0416, maryann.schilling@ces.uwex.edu, or zina.soltis@ces.uwex.edu.

To assist county residents with growing their own food, UW-Extension’s Master Gardeners have provided educational programs around the county, including programs on the Square Foot Gardening method.  The Master Gardeners have informational booths about gardening at events around Waushara County, including at the Waushara County Fair.

The Master Gardeners annual plant sale is May 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at the fairgrounds.  The Master Gardeners and UW-Extension Agriculture Agent Ken Williams are available to answer garden questions, including identifying and offering advice on how to deal with weeds and insects, 920-787-0416 or ken.williams@ces.uwex.edu.
