National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. It’s never too early to teach your children the importance of good oral health.

Here are some ways to prevent tooth decay in your children’s’ teeth:

•Don’t share utensils.  This can actually transfer cavity-causing germs!

•Limit sugary treats

•Drink fluoridated water

•Use fluoride toothpaste

•Seal out decay with dental sealants

•Brush teeth for two minutes, two times a day

The Waushara County Health Department (WCHD) offers a variety of programs to help with your child’s dental needs:

•Seal-A-Smile Program: WCHD provides free dental sealants to the majority of schools in Waushara County. Dental sealants help prevent cavities and are put on the chewing surface of the back teeth. Eligible children, in many grades, have the opportunity to receive sealants.
