Waushara County Health Department continues to offer flu vaccine in the Wautoma office.  Appointments are preferred for the flu vaccine at the Wautoma office.  Call 920-787-6590 today to set up an appointment.

The symptoms of influenza are fever, sore throat, chills, cough, headache, muscle aches and fatigue.  Influenza can lead to pneumonia and in children the high fever can cause seizures. About 36,000 people die from influenza in the United States annually.

This fall’s vaccine includes a quadrivalent (four types of protection) vaccine. Influenza vaccine is recommended to individuals at high risk of developing complications of influenza and those that wish to avoid complications of influenza.

It takes about two weeks for protection to develop after the vaccination. The vaccine must be received every year as the influenza viruses are always changing. Persons receiving the vaccine may still get influenza but for most people it prevents serious illness.  It is not too late to receive the vaccine. The influenza season peaks in Wisconsin in January and February.
