National Preparedness Month

Disasters can strike at any time. Are you prepared for an emergency that can affect you?

Disaster preparedness starts with personal preparedness for you and your family. Each family has unique needs that must be accounted for in their preparedness plans, so start your planning today. Create an emergency kit, make a family plan, and be informed about the disasters that can happen in your area.

In the event of an emergency, you may not have access to food, water or electricity. Take the time now to prepare a three-day supply of emergency food, water, and supplies. Building a kit with these essentials can help your family stay safer during a disaster:

•One gallon of water per person, per day

•Food that’s easy-to-make and won’t spoil

•Flashlight

•Battery powered radio

•Batteries

•Cell phone charger

•First aid kit

•Blanket

•Personal care items; Toothbrush, soap, etc.

Next, make a plan. Families can cope with disasters by preparing in advance and working together as a team. This starts by considering what types of emergencies can happen in your area. For example, a tornado is a natural disaster that could affect Waushara County. Does your family know what the warning signs are and where to take shelter?
