Waushara County Health News

National Public Health Week, April 6-12

Have you ever considered what your public health department does for you? There are many things that Waushara County Health Department does that you may not think about.

In the schools, the public health department keeps children’s smiles healthy by providing fluoride, varnish, rinses and offering the Shara-Smile School Sealant Program.

If families do not have adequate fluoride in their well water, they can receive fluoride supplements for their children.

How do you know if you have adequate fluoride in your water? The Health Department offers Well Water Test Kits. Prices vary depending on which tests you would like done. There are also Radon Test Kits available and there are no costs at all for this test.

Another household hazard you may not think about is lead. Lead-based paints are still present inside and outside many older homes. The health department offers blood lead education upon request. The environmental and health issues are addressed and high child blood leads are investigated.

The Health Department doesn’t just provide services for children; we have services for all ages, including:

•Free blood pressure checks are offered at the Senior Meal Sites

•Tuesday mornings are the Foot Care Clinic for adults

•Post-partum visits are offered to all new moms and the Prenatal Care Coordination (PNCC) is there for all qualified pregnant women.
