Madelyn (Maddie) Junion-Sherman was recently selected to be the recipient of the Olivia O’Hara Newton Scholarship, which is for $1,000. This scholarship is awarded to “any individual who is currently enrolled, or planning to enroll, in an accredited institution for a program that promotes animal health and well-being. Such programs would include, but are not limited to; veterinary care, animal behavior, animal conservation and animal sheltering.” As a first year DVM candidate at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, she knew this scholarship not only aligned perfectly with her career goals, but would also be very beneficial in helping her reach those goals. This award is given by the Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter in Tomah, Wisconsin. She is the daughter of Lisa Junion, a former Special Education teacher in Wautoma, and John Sherman, a former English teacher at Tri-County. The family resides in Hancock. Maddie is seen accepting a check from a staff member.
