Accidents reported in Waushara County

09/22/2020: A one-vehicle crash occurred at 4:22 p.m. on 26th Lane in the Town of Leon. Deputy responded to a mailbox damage complaint and located Rodney Cross, 50, Wild Rose, vehicle unoccupied, parked on the side of the roadway. The vehicle had scratch marks down the passenger side and was missing the passenger side mirror that was found on the scene of where the mailbox was struck. The deputy made contact with Cross the following evening who admitted to striking the mailbox but stated he had swerved to miss deer in the roadway. Cross stated he did not have insurance for his vehicle and was scared.

09/25/2020: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 12:15 a.m. on the intersection on STH 22 southbound in the Village of Wild Rose. Levi Tollock, 65, Wild Rose, appeared to have driven straight through the stop sign at the t-intersection into the ditch Tollock’s vehicle was unoccupied with open intoxicants inside of the vehicle. He was later located at his residence. He stated he miss his turn into his residence and continued down the roadway and was going too fast for the fog, not stopping at the stop sign.

09/26/2020: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 9:33 p.m. on STH73 northbound in the Town of Oasis. Jacob Galleske, 23, Plainfield, failed to negotiate the turn when coming up to the intersection of Apache Rd and State Rd 73. Galleske crossed the roadway and hit the curb, then went into the south side ditch, and then attempted a “Y” turn to get back on the roadway. Galleske backed up then went forward and the vehicle got stuck. He appeared to be intoxicated and performed field sobriety exercises. After completing field sobriety tests, Galleske was arrested for OWI-1st Offense.

09/27/2020: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 5:26 p.m. on 4th Ct. in the Town of Plainfield. Robert Winters, 29, Bancroft, and Shawn Jessie, 54, Lake Mills, both arrived at the Plainfield Travel Plaza and got into an argument. Jessie got back in to his vehicle, backed up, then drove forward into the rear of Winters. Jessie then pushed Winters forward a few feet. Winters got into his vehicle. Jessie then left the Plaza parking lot. Winters also left and was following Jessie. Both were traveling at a high speed. Winters collided with Jessie’s driver side rear, which caused him to go off the roadway and into a retention pond. Jessie was able to keep driving and reentered the roadway, then driving up to the intersection of 4th Ct. and State Road 73. Jessie drove to Good Ol Boys Bar near Hancock. Winters had his vehicle removed by Johnson Towing. Winters was identified with a driver’s license. Jessie was identified with the help of a witness. Upon making phone contact with Jessie, he admitted to being the other driver and stated that he left the crash scene due to fearing Winters had a weapon to try to harm him. Jessie also stated his vehicle was totaled and left at Good Ol Boys Bar.

09/23/2020: At 10:21 p.m., Tyler Bandtel, 24, Wautoma, on 18th Ave., in the Town of Dakota.
