Accidents reported in Waushara County

2/11/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 12:06 a.m. on STH49 southbound in the Town of Bloomfield. David Arndt, 63, Weyauwega, stated while traveling northbound Matthew Johannes, 39, Redgranite, was traveling southbound and crossed the centerline into his lane of travel, striking his vehicle. Arndt stated that Johannes continued southbound without stopping. Arndt’s vehicle suffered disabling damage, but he was able to move it out of the roadway so it was not a traffic hazard. Deputy spoke with Johannes about what occurred. He informed that while he believed that Arndt had crossed into his lane of travel and struck his vehicle. Johannes stated he was confused and in shock from what occurred. It should be noted that Johannes also suffered disabling damage due to losing the front driver side tire. Deputy was able to locate the Johannes vehicle in the ditch on State Highway 49 near the intersection of Archer Ave. where it was left abandoned.

2/12/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 10:03 a.m. on STH152 eastbound in the Town of Mount Morris. Emily Mcavoy, 41, Wauwatosa, approached the curve at the intersection of Chicago Ave. The vehicle slid across the road on the snow covered road and contacted the snowbank on the south shoulder. There were no complaints of injuries.

2/12/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 11:40 p.m. on 430 E Division St. in the City of Wautoma. Jesse Gilchrist, 30, Omro, was backing to turn around in the parking lot when striking a rock, causing damage to rear bumper.

2/13/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred on CTHXX northbound in the Town of Poy Sippi. Frank Gayton, 45, Mount Pleasant, stated that he had to move over for oncoming traffic and couldn’t tell where the shoulder was on the snow covered road. The passenger side wheels got caught on the shoulder and then the vehicle slid into the ditch. The vehicle continued northbound in the ditch for approximately 300 feet, striking a utility pole along the way causing damage to the passenger side mirror and the right front corner of the cargo box. Driver did not complain of injury.

2/13/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 3:20 p.m. on private property in the Town of Coloma. Troy Lessard, 29, Wautoma, was driving a liquid propane delivery truck while backing up hill to south on private property. He collided with utility electrical box mounted on board. Driver was not on scene. Property owner came home to find his house was cold, and found vehicle tracks and damage. No shoe/boot prints to propane tank. Deputy contacted Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative, and they were aware of the outage and had removed the electrical meter. Owner was in contact with his delivery service-Kerschner’s Gas Service Inc. and had spoken and met with owner. Deputy spoke with Mark Kerschner and driver had truck in Wautoma and stated there was no damage to his truck. Deputy spoke with driver and found minor damage scratch in driver side read corner of truck.

2/13/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on S Main St. in the Village of Lohrville. Jonathan Moriarty, 47, Berlin, was parked at Good Times Bar and Grill when he proceeded to leave in reverse from the bar. The back then stuck the front of Michael Gutche, 40, Redgranite, who was parked across from the bar causing significant front end damage to Gutche. Moriarty then left the scene.

2/14/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 10:50 a.m. on STH21 westbound in the Town of Dakota. Hailee Powless, 17, Redgranite, stated she was changing lanes in the curve when she hit the packed snow/ice on the road and the vehicle slid across the median, across the eastbound lanes, and came to rest in the snowbank in the south shoulder. There was damage to the front left corner of the vehicle that she stated was from a previous incident. Deputy did fine the trim piece from the bottom of the car on the driver’s side lying next to the vehicle. It was discovered that the exhaust had been knocked loose, and the vehicle was leaking coolant and gasoline. No injuries were reported.

2/16/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 4:19 p.m. on S Main St. in the Village of Hancock. Derrick Brown, 23, Chicago, IL, was attempting to flee from law enforcement and traveled through the stop sign on West North Lake Street at Main Street and was struck in the driver’s side rear tire by Scott Ross, 39, Hancock, who was attempting to stop to avoid the collision as he knew Brown would not be able to stop at the sign. State Patrol units had terminated the pursuit prior to the collision.

2/17/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 7:23 a.m. on CTHE northbound in the Town of Leon. Katherine Borkovec, 26, Berlin, was northbound on County Road E when Christopher Mankowski, 18, Pine River, was exiting private driveway westbound, in the path of Borkovec. Both vehicles came to rest in southbound lane facing west.

2/18/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 10:16 a.m. in a parking lot in the Town of Plainfield. Gerald Golke, 69, Waupaca, was entering the Plainfield Travel Plaza parking lot. The vehicle started sliding on the snow packed/icy road and the driver tried to stop by applying the brakes. The vehicle slid and then struck a large rock that was sitting along the driveway to the travel plaza. The truck came to rest on top of the rock. It appeared that significant damage had been done to the undercarriage.

2/19/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 12:07 p.m. on Cottonville Ave. in the Town of Richford. James Weisenberger, 72, Hancock, noticed a vehicle stuck in the ditch with a winch going across the road attempting to pull the vehicle out. Weisenberger attempted to slow down to avoid striking the cable when he was unable to stop prior to collision and he began to slowly move to the right and ultimately entered the ditch, striking a log. He was pulled out of the ditch by a tractor and then driven home. During the drive home he had no oil pressure and the check engine light was on. There was no visible damage noticed by the deputy.

2/19/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 4:59 p.m. on Clark’s Mill Rd. northbound in the Town of Saxeville. James Cunningham, 16, Weyauwega, was traveling on snow/ice covered roadway. Cunningham stated he was not looking at roadway and when he hooked up the vehicle was entering a ditch. He was unable to correct and entered the ditch, striking a tree on the east side of the road way. Cunningham came to a rest against the tree.

2/20/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 6:27 p.m. on Oak St/CTHN eastbound in the Town of Marion. Donte Leone, 19, Redgranite, was going home when a deer came onto the roadway. He was able to avoid the deer, but entered the ditch and struck the fence. Donte and property owner exchanged information in regards to the damage to the fence.

2/21/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 9:58 a.m. on CTHA eastbound in the Town of Rose. Andrew Kurz, 49, Plainfield, was negotiating a right curve at approximately 50 MPH and failed. Kurz crossed the center line and rolled over into the south ditch. No injuries.

2/22/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 7:27 a.m. on Covered Bridge Rd. in the Town of Springwater. Nathan Pingel, 19 Wautoma, was eastbound on South County Road A when he braked and lost control striking Travis Brownlow, 25, Wautoma, in a winter maintenance plow struck backing into the intersection of Covered Bridge Rd., and South County Road A.

2/15/2021: At 6:30 a.m., Ernest Boyce, 77, Waupaca, on 31st CT, Town of Bloomfield.
