Accidents reported in Waushara County

1/02/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 12 p.m. on Main St/STH22 southbound in the Village of Wild Rose. Deputy responded to a crash with road blockage. Upon arriving there was no longer road blockage. Legion Marks, 39, Wild Rose, stated he was almost at a complete stop or stopped as he was waiting for traffic to pass so he could make a left turn when he felt the hit from Kathryn Nowland, 57, Wild Rose. Nowland hit Marks’ ATV trailer. The ATV did not appear to be damaged and the trailer sustained extensive damage as Nowlan hit the right rear corner when she tried to swerve and miss it. The force caused the front hitch to bend from being straight to and elbow like shape. Nowland stated she came around the corner and was looking for the dogs that are normally outside the residence. She stated when she looked back it was too late. Nowland stated she was going approximately 22-25 MP when she hit the trailer.

1/16/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 6 a.m. on County Road S/STHS westbound in the Town of Marion. Matthew Gaboury-Gorges, 18, Redgranite, was approaching a stop sign on a T intersection and was unable to stop due to poor road conditions. He did attempt to turn but was unable to and exited the roadway into the west ditch, still facing west. HE struck a large rock, went over rock and into a fence. The vehicle came to rest on top of the rock in a farm field. He stated it is his first winter driving and did not know how slippery the road was.

1/19/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 11:48 p.m. on CTHJJ eastbound in the Town of Richford. Miguel Gonzalez Arriola, 22, Plainfield, was negotiating a curve on County Road JJ. Arriola was traveling too fast for the road conditions which were snow covered and icy. He lost control of the vehicle and crossed the roadway into the northern ditch on County Road JJ. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled one time then came to a rest on its wheels. The driver was identified by WI drivers license. The driver admitted to driving too fast for the conditions and was determined to not be impaired.

1/20/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 3:12 p.m. on STH73 northbound in the Town of Wautoma. Thomas Sullivan, 44, Wautoma, was traveling with a trailer when a garbage can flew out of the trailer and onto the roadway entering the northbound lane of State Highway 73. Kyle Scott, 26, Wausau, was unable to avoid making contact with the garbage can, striking it with its’ front left quarter panel. Scott sustained minor damage to the wheel well portion of the vehicle.

1/20/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred on Brown Deer Rd in the Town of Leon. A deputy was dispatched to a hit and run property damage complaint at the intersection of Brown Deer Road and 30th Drive. It appeared that an unknown vehicle was westbound on Brown Deer Road and intentionally left the roadway on the right shoulder and made contact with a curve ahead sign causing the post to break. The vehicle then reentered the roadway and continued westbound. The vehicle then left the roadway on the right shoulder again and made contact with the road sign for the intersection of Brown Deer Road and 30th Drive. The road sign post was metal and was bent over to the ground. The road signs were found approximately ¼ mile west of the intersection. No identifying parts were left at the scene.

1/22/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 8 a.m. on Oak St./CTHN eastbound in the Town of Marion. Kailer Trinrud, 17, Neshkoro, got into some loose gravel on the shoulder and partially in the roadway. Trinrud failed to negotiate the curve to the left in the road. The vehicle went off the road to the right and side swiped a power pole.

1/22/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 7:50 p.m. on CTHG northbound in the Town of Mount Morris. Ashley Bolden, 30, Omro, was unfamiliar with the road and saw a deer in the roadway. The vehicle tracks into the ditch and subsequent slide make it appear she did not swerve but instead drove off the roadway and lost control. The vehicle entered the east side ditch. Bolden attempted to correct the vehicle’s direction. The driver over steered to passenger side and crossed center line and into the southbound lane. The vehicle continued into the west side ditch. The vehicle caughtthe ditch and rolled onto its roof. The driver was able to self-extricate from the vehicle and the odor of alcohol was present.

1/24/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 11:03 a.m. on CTHE eastbound in the Town of Warren. George Illetschko, 41, Berlin, stated a vehicle in front of him lost control traveling in the same direction. He stated he chose to go into the ditch rather than striking the vehicle from behind and instream struck a “School Bus Stop Again” traffic sign.

 

1/24/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on CTHA eastbound in the Town of Springwater. Timothy Haas, 58, Milwaukee, and Katelyn Steckbauer, 21, La Crosse, were both traveling in the same direction when Haas hit an icy patch and spun out. Steckbauer was not able to slow down or avoid Haas and contacts his passenger front. Steckbauer was pushed into the ditch and was able to continue on after providing information to Haas. Haas continued to a friend’s house where they met with law enforcement. Haas stated he was driving approximately 45 MPH due to poor road conditions. Katelyn Steckbauer was traveling approximately 55 MPH and could not stop due to road conditions.

1/11/2021: At 7:55 a.m., Evan Ramczyk, 16, Wild Rose, on CTHA, Westbound, Town of Rose.
