Westfield girls defeat Wisconsin Dells

On Jan. 20, the Westfield Area girls’ varsity basketball team hosted Wisconsin Dells. The Pioneers won, 43-38, over the Chiefs.

Top performers included: Paige Peschel, 13 points; Cassidy Winter, 8 points; Atalie Mittelstedt, 6 points; Amy Van Natta, 6 points; Janel Weir, 7 points.


Wild Rose boys defeated by Auburndale

In a battle between two ranked teams, the Auburndale Apaches, ranked 3rd in the AP polls, defeated the Wild Rose Wildcats, ranked 6th in the last AP polls.

Auburndale used a strong inside-outside attack and converted 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch to hold off any Wild Rose comeback.

For the Wildcats, Darren Hudziak led the way with 16 points, Austin Bleskacek added 13, and Jimmy Malchow finished with 12.


Tri-County girls defeated in close game

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Tri-County girls’ varsity basketball team hosted Marion. Tri-County was defeated by one point, losing 30-29 to Marion.

For Tri-County, Gabrielle Weekly scored 9 points, Crystal Strosser scored 9 points on three 3’s, and Kayla Krueger scored 9 points.

It was a close game throughout. Tri-County played a solid zone defense, but only made 2 of 8 free throws.


Lady Hornets fall short to undefeated Green Devils

The Lady Hornets made it a respectable game against the undefeated and ranked number four in Division 3 Adams-Friendship Green Devils but fell short 33-41 in conference play on Jan. 24 at Wautoma.

Wautoma was led by a combination of players scoring 13 points in Jade Graebel and Jackie Detlor. Ellen Hetcher owned the glass with ten rebounds. As for Adams, they were led by 6’0” freshman exceptional player Emma Roenneburg who had 17 points, followed by Kogle’s 10.


Lady Hornets take down the Hilltoppers

It took the Lady Hornets about a quarter to get in rhythm as the visiting Montello Hilltoppers played a tough first half, but the Hornets’ sizzling shooting in the middle of second quarter made it a 60-33 game on Jan. 26.

Detlor led all scorers with 28 points (5-7 on 3-point attempts) to go along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Jade Graebel also scored in double digits with 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.


Westfield defeated at home by Wisconsin Dells

On Friday, Jan. 27, the Westfield Area boys’ varsity basketball team hosted Wisconsin Dells. Wisconsin Dells went on to defeat their hosts, 65-33. Top performers included: Casey Knaup, 20 points.


Tri-County Penguins beat Rosholt in Triple OT 87-83 

Erick Weis dropped in seven 3-pointers and scored 43 points to lead Tri-County in a CWC-10 victory over Rosholt on Thursday, Jan. 26. Tyler Schwartzman added 23 points for the Penguins.

Tri-County led by 11 at halftime, but Rosholt battled back and forced the overtimes.

Top performers for Tri-County included: Trevor Hanke 7, Dre Kramer 4, Erick Weis 43, Tyler Schwartzman 23, Marshall Rutz 7, Darren Reid 2, Leighton Bates 1.


Wild Rose boys win at Port Edwards

The Wild Rose Boys basketball team ventured to Port Edwards on Friday, Jan. 27, and came away with a hard-fought 46-42 victory.

The guests overcame a cold second quarter in which they only scored three points.

Wild Rose was led by Darren Hudziak's 17 points, 9 in the fourth quarter. Austin Bleskacek added 8 points and 8 rebounds.

The win moved the Wildcats to 12-2 on the year.


Wild Rose boys host Bowler

The Wild Rose Wildcats had no trouble pouncing on the Bowler Panthers in boys’ basketball action on Jan. 24 for a 69-36 win.


Wautoma/Wild Rose Warriors win dual, 37-36

A total of eight pins were seen in the Wautoma/Wild Rose wrestling matchup with Westfield, with the Wautoma/Wild Rose Warriors narrowly taking the Jan. 26 meet, 37-36.


Wild Rose girls host Port Edwards

It was no easy tsk, but the Wild Rose Ladycats were up for the challenge of the Port Edwards Lady Blackhawks on Jan. 27, and came up with a 52-42 girls’ basketball win.
