The Almond-Bancroft Lady Eagles swooped in for a 3-0 victory in conference volleyball action against the Port Edwards Lady Blackhawks on Sept. 12.
The Lady Eagles were a little slow to start, with the Lady Blackhawks taking an early lead. Almond-Bancroft was able to tye things up at 13 points, and quickly played for a 10-point lead. Port Edward’s Aubree Shroda helped the Lady Blackhawks with consecutive scores closing the lead Almond’s lead 23-19. The close fight to the finish ended with a kill over the net by Oakley Omernik giving the Lady Eagles the 25-22 win.
The Lady Blackhawks started the second game in the lead, but the Lady Eagles were quick to tie it up at 4 points. Almond-Bancroft lost their stride breifly, with Port Edwards maintaining a one to two point lead. A block from Oakley was able to get the ball into the Lady Eagles side of the court, but a failed serve gave it right back to Port Edwards.
The Lady Blackhawks maintained their short lead, until a kill from Mya Dernbach gave the Lady Ealges a chance to tie things up at 16 points. The scored stayed tied until another kill from Mya got the Lady Eagles in the lead, 22-20. Almond-Bancroft took the win 25-22. The Lady Eagles kept up a good pace in the third game, playing with an early lead. The Lady Blackhawks were unable to catch up, with Almond-Bancroft taking a 25-11 win.
Sophomore Mya Dernbach was able to make 8 kills, closely followed by Maddy Potts with 7 kills, Lexie Dernbach 6, Kenze Kowalski and Riya Ceballos 4, and Oakley Omernick 3. Mya also had 3 successful blocks and 14 digs. Lexie was able to record 13 digs, Aaliyah Newby and Messina Meddaugh each had 9, and Emalee Petrick 7.
