Wild Rose Scholarship Foundation approves scholarship recipients

Prior to the Wild Rose School Board meeting on Apr. 14, a brief meeting of the Wild Rose Scholarship Foundation was held. Scholarship recipients selected were reviewed and approved. The next Scholarship Foundation meeting will be held on
Dec. 8.

During the School Board meeting a public hearing was held regarding the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) Fund grant program under the American Rescue Plan.

District Administrator Craig Hayes pointed out that “no money has been received by having anyone tested, wearing masks, or vaccinated in regards to COVID-. “These dollars are distributed through a formula for all schools,” as assistance for what was lost during the pandemic, he added.  A listing for what the fund is/has been used for was provided.

In priority business, Baird Financial representative, Lisa Voisin, provided information on the referendum financing plan. “We’re still in a good (interest) market. It’s good to minimize the interest and maximize the earnings available through investments once the funds are received,” Lisa said. Lisa Voisin went on to say the school district has a “strong fund balance, which is saving the district well over $230,000.” The next board meeting a Baird rep will be attending is on May 12.

The exemption request for a student from taking a state assessment was approved by the board.

The board approved a senior class trip to the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells on May 20.

A leave of absence request from Dixie Wachsmuth was approved by the board.

The resignations of Logan Erickson as a middle/high school English/language arts teacher, and Stephanie Williams as middle school social studies teacher, 6-12 gifted and talented coordinator, and technology integration specialist were also approved.

The board went on to approve a joint gift from the Booster Club and WRAP group of Put-in-Cups to be placed on the outer south side of fencing on the athletic field to spell out “Wild Rose Wildcats” like Wautoma has on their athletic field.

The board viewed the proposed amendments to the constitution, bylaws, and rules of eligibility to go before the WIAA annual meeting on Apr. 27.

A discussion on the current school year included there have been no new COVID cases on quarantine in the school district for quite some time.

The CESA5 delegate for the May 12 annual convention in Portage will be Sandie Anderson.

The district adminis-trator’s report included the resignation of  bus driver, Jim Erdman.

The elementary principal reported on a math and reading night, including a play, will take place on Apr. 21.

The middle/high school principal said that prom will be held Apr. 23 from 8-11 p.m.

The next board meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Apr. 28 and May 12.
