Ladycats score close win over Lady Penguins

It wasn’t an easy task but the Wild Rose Ladycats took a 15-11 win over the Tri-County Lady Penguins in April 25 softball action. Wild Rose jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of play, while only allowing a walk to Tri-County. Laney Havlovitz, Zoe Bruning, and Katie Harley-Little each had a base hit, while a teammate was hit by a pitch and another reached on a dropped third strike. Tri-County bounced back in the second with 6 runs to take a 6-4 lead. Four walks were issued to visiting batters, three reached on errors, and another by some other means. All the hosts were able to muster in the inning was a base hit by Cali Havlovitz. Tri-County increased its’ lead by a run in the third inning, 7-4, with a base hit from Jaycie Sanchez, while a teammate reached base on an error. Wild Rose could only come up with a walk in the inning. The fourth inning had Morgan Anderson getting a base hit for Tri-County, while a teammate walked. Wild Rose was to retake the lead in the inning with 4 runs, 8-7, with base hits coming from C. Havlovitz and Abbie McCardell, and a double from Lilly Luchini. One teammate reached on a walk, and another on an error. The Lady Penguins were shut down in the fifth, while the Ladycats picked up 5 runs for a 13-7 lead. Harley-Little and C. Havlovitz each came up with base hits and Luchini a triple. Two teammates reached on errors, one walked, and another sacrificed. The sixth inning saw the visitors produce 4 runs to close the gap, 13-11, as Paiton Rothermel, Skye Hopkins, Skylar Wade, Taylor Millard, and Anderson each had base hits. Walks were issued to 2 other batters. The hosts added 2 runs to their lead in the inning for a 15-11 advantage, with Addie Smykal, C. Havlovitz, Luchini, and McCardell each getting base hits. Tri-County was held to a walk in the seventh to preserve the win for Wild Rose. Cali Havlovitz had 4 base hits for Wild Rose, and scored 4 runs. Lilly Luchini had a triple, double, and a single, scoring twice. Abbie McCardell had 2 base hits and 2 runs, while Katie Harley-Little had 2 base hits. Laney Havlovitz struck out 7 Tri-County batters and walked 9. Morgan Anderson had 2 base hits and a run for Tri-County. Paiton Rothermel, Skye Hopkins, Skylar Wade, Taylor Millard, and Jaycie Sanchez each had a base hit, and scored 7 total runs among them. Paiton Rothermel struck out 5 Wild Rose batters and walked just 3.
