Lady Hornet softball take close win over the Lady Chiefs

Subhead
The Wautoma Lady Hornet softball team made it a lot closer than it needed to be as they barely won 7-6 on May 11 at home for Senior Night against the visiting Wisconsin Dells Lady Chiefs. Wautoma Head Coach Tom Butt recognized the five Senior players in Natalie Perkins, Ava Stahl, Sydney Dunn, Braelynn Pica and Ava Butt for all their years of service and dedication to the program. The Hornets shot out to a 3-0 lead in their first inning wraps on a Stahl walk (SB), Brianna Buechner single (SB), Dunn RBI single and Butt RBI sacrifice fly. They would strike again in the fourth inning for their remaining runs on a Perkins one-out double, Lyv Weiss reaching first on an error, Buechner two-out bunt RBI single, Dunn “RBI Machine” RBI single and Butt RBI single. Wautoma pitcher Liv Cieslik would cruise through the first five innings with no-hits given up with a walk and HBP sprinkled in. However, a couple Hornet defensive blunders allowed the hit to take place along with two runs across to make it 7-2. Ava Butt would come in the seventh and there was no improvement on defense as four more unearned runs came across with the tying run on second before she struck out the last Chiefs batter to end it. Cieslik recorded the win going six innings with seven strikeouts, solo hit, walk, a HBP with no earned runs with Butt closing the door with a strikeout, two hits and zero earned runs. Wautoma tallied nine hits with Buechner (2x4, RBI, SB, 2 runs), Dunn (2x4, 2-RBI’s, 2 runs, SB) and Perkins (2x3, 2B, run) leading the way with Stahl (1x3, 2 SB’s), Butt (1x1, 2-RBI’s, 2 sacs) and Cieslik (1x3, 3B) collecting a hit each. Wautoma improved to 13-9 overall and finished 8-2 in SCC Conference action.
