The Wautoma Lady Hornets softball team lost 9-6 against the Lodi Lady Blue Devils in non-conference action May 15 at Bird Creek Park.
Wautoma was able to jump out to a 1-0 in the first on an Ava Stahl hit, Brianna Buechner sac bunt and Sydney Dunn RBI single. Lodi responded with two runs of their own to take the lead 2-1 after one and half innings of play. Yet, the Hornets came right back even to the score 2-2 on a Larissa Piechowski lead-off single, Braelynn Pica walk and Eva Thompson RBI sac bunt scoring Piechowski.
The Blue Devils once again garnered the lead in the third inning with a Burros solo blast making it 3-2. Lodi would extend the lead in the 5th innings as they exploded for four runs with two hits, a couple walks and an error to make it 7-2. Wautoma would buzz right back with three of their own on a Stahl single, Buechner hit, Dunn 2-RBI single, Ava Butt single and Liv Cieslik RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Blue Devils added two more runs in the 7th while the Hornets added one on a Piechowski fielder’s choice RBI.
Liv Cieslik was the losing pitcher of record going six innings, 7 K’s, 5 BB’s, 8 hits and 7 earned runs. Ava Butt pitched the sixth inning giving up a hit and walk. The Hornets were able to total 10 hit with Stahl (2x3, 2 runs, BB), Dunn (2x3, 3 RBI’s, 2 runs, BB), Bryn Gunderson (2x4) with multi-hits and Buechner (1x3, run, sac), Butt (1x3), Cieslik (1x4, RBI, SB) and Piechowski (1x4, RBI, run) each having a hit.
