Body
Virgil A. Paap, age 90, left this world at Bethany Home in Waupaca on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born to the late John and Edna (Zempel) Paap on December 14, 1933. He graduated the 8th grade from the “Tin School” near his home in Weyauwega. Virgil was baptized, confirmed and was a lifelong member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Waupaca, where he also served as organist for over 30 years. He married Joyce Bartel on November 16, 1963. Together they built their home in the Clarks Mill Community of rural Weyauwega on his grandfather’s land and remained there until he moved to Bethany Home in Waupaca in 2021. Virgil was self employed as a house painter/wall paperer and cleaning service. He also enjoyed antiquing, cooking and baking, gardening and keeping up with the “going-ons” in the community. He was the family historian and could remember dates, ancestors and their stories and share for hours on end.
He is survived by his brother: Larry (Judy) Paap; sister-in-law: Barb Bartel; nephew: Scott (Vicki) Paap; nieces: Kim (Gene) Rogers; Dawn Paap; Jodi (Dan) Jensen-Schuelke and Melissa (Jim) PaapYoung; great nephews: Alec and Ethan Jensen, Garett Paap, Rhett Young and great nieces: Adeline and Campbell Young.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff of Bethany, Bethany Pines and Hospice for their loving care during his stay at their facilities.
The Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. The visitation was held on Friday at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial was held in Concordia Cemetery in West Bloomfield.
