Gertrude H. Fravel, age 93, of Coloma passed away Thursday evening, January 11, 2024 at Edenbrook Wisconsin Rapids.
She was born December 9, 1930 in Bŭdingen, Germany the daughter of Heinrich and Elisabeth (Bauer) Heck. She married Charles W. Fravel on May 6, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1986. Gertrude was born in Germany during World War II. She told her family many stories of the hardship of war. She was required to become a member of the “Hitler Youth” which involved helping wounded German soldiers and gathering food for them. Gertrude overcame being disabled for over 15 years through pure determination, a strong faith and stubbornness. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coloma.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” (William) Warfield; grandchildren: Michele C. (Mark) Borud, Geoffrey M. (Leah) Warfield, Crystal Krueger (Gilbert Longoria), Bobbi Jo Shadowens (fiancé Luke Peachey); her former daughter-in-law: Jackqulyn Shadowens; great-grandchildren: Mason Borud, Aidan, Sophia, Cora and Harlan Warfield, Alyssa Longoria, Catelin Krueger-Washington (Girod Washington), Carter Krueger, Kalie (Bee) Kantner, Colin (Nicole) Kantner. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews that were special in her heart; special friends: Mark and Gay Meinke, Barb Brown, Janet Thompson, Pat Power, Freddy Wenzel, Monica Kerschner, Cindy Gray, Al Schliepp, Jean Zuehlke along with other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Fravel; her parents; and by her siblings in Germany.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coloma with Deacon Pam Werth officiating. Burial will be at Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
