Mabel Koentopp
Dec. 21, 1909-July 25, 2010

Mabel Koentopp, 99, formerly of Wautoma, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Juliette Manor, Berlin                                                                           

She was born Dec. 21, 1909, in the Town of Crystal Lake, Marquette County, the daughter of William and Adalina (Guderjohn) Mielke. She married Gordon Koentopp on Nov. 27, 1930, in Wautoma. He preceded her in death in 1966.                                                                                                         

She is survived by her special friend, Carolyn Rodensal, Berlin, and by Carolyn’s daughter, Kim Lehr, Redgranite.

In accordance with Mrs. Koentopp’s wishes, private services with burial at Wautoma Union Cemetery will be held. The Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma is assisting with arrangements.      


Eleanor Eloise Bacon
Sept 2, 1920-July 23, 2010

Eleanor Eloise Bacon, 89, Hancock, passed away Friday afternoon, July 23, 2010, at Harmony Living Center in Stevens Point.

She was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Hancock, the daughter of Worth J. and Ellen Barnes Staples. She married Merle G. Bacon on June 15, 1941, in Hancock. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1978.

She was a life member of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Oasis Prairie Homemaker’s Club. Eloise was a talented seamstress and an avid quilter. She volunteered at the Ministry Medical Hospital in Stevens Point.

Mrs. Bacon was member of the Hancock United Church of Christ, where she participated in the Ladies Aid for many years. She and her husband farmed in the Hancock area for 54 years.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Judy) Bacon, Hancock, Randell (Sharon) Bacon, Hancock, Gayle (Linda) Bacon, Hancock, Linda (John) Richardson, Omro; her loving grandchildren, James (Deborah) Bacon, Mark (Michelle) Bacon, Betsey (Jason) Welty, Jeffrey (Kelly) Bacon, Aric (Lisa Orlowski) Bacon, Sean Bacon, Tina Bacon, David Bacon; great-grandchildren, Emily Bacon, Alexander Bacon, Kaila Bacon, Zachery Bacon, Kyle Bacon and Jacob Bacon.

She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Marge Staples, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Vance Staples, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Ileta Rohde.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield, with the Rev. Yul Kwon officiating. Burial will be in the North Deerfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday with an Eastern Star Service at 6:45 p.m. and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Ruth Ann E. (Spring) Hansen

Ruth Ann E. (Spring) Hansen, Appleton, 75, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton.

She was born in Jefferson, IA, on Jan. 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (Miller) Spring. On Sept. 18, 1954, she married her husband of 55 years, George Hansen, in Racine.

Ruth was an administrative assistant for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Southern Wisconsin Center, and then went on to become a customer service representative for Wisconsin Gas, Wautoma. She enjoyed traveling extensively and had the opportunity to visit over 30 countries with George. The two of them also attended many antique shows throughout the years.

She had a passion for history and a keen knack for remembering the dates of important events. Family and friends were everything to Ruth. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness and caring toward others.

Ruth is survived by her husband, George; children, Jon Stephen (Connie) Hansen, Wautoma, Paul Christian (Crystal) Hansen, Middleton, and Eric Andrew (Shelly) Hansen, Appleton; grandchildren, Justin Hansen and Taylor Hansen; brother, William Spring; and sister, Margaret Spring. She will be dearly missed by her beloved “grandpuppies,” Sammy and Riley, Aubey George, and Jazz and Sophie.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Vearl and Donald, and sisters, Celeste and Leola.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 30 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade Street, Appleton, with Pastor James Seim officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Ruth’s name has been established. Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, is serving the family.

Charles Alvin Owens
Sept. 16, 1925-June 14, 2010

Charles Alvin Owens was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Wild Rose. He was the sixth child of Charles Owens and Effe Jane Jones Owens. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years and passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010, at his home in Weslaco, TX.

Charles is survived by Sylvia, his loving wife of 62 years. Also surviving him are his son, Darrell, and his wife, Nelly, Lenior, NC; daughters, Sharon, and her husband, Gary Marggi, Eldorado, Linda and her husband, Gary Mitchell, Redgranite, and Nadine Arndt, Fond du Lac. There are nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, a sister and brother.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother and five sisters, and a great grandchild. Charles requested that his favorite person be mentioned in his obituary, his grandmother Mary E. Owens.

Charles graduated from Wild Rose High School. He served in the US Army during World War II with the 340th Engineers in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Wild Rose American Legion Post # 370. He worked for the Waushara County Highway Department for 34 years. Charles and Sylvia were winter Texans for 19 years and  became full-time residents nine years ago.

Graveside and military service will be held Sunday, Aug. 1 at 1 p.m. at Caersalem Cemetery, north of Wild Rose off Highway 22 on Apache. Shelter and seating will be available.

Memorials may be made to IPH Hospice or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mercedes.


Leo S. Henriksen
April 9, 1914-July 21, 2010

Leo Simon Henriksen, 96, Redgranite, joined his wife, Agnes, in Heaven Wednesday evening, July 21, 2010, at Juliette Manor Nursing Home in Berlin, where he had resided for the past year and a half. Leo was born April 9, 1914, in Arkdale, Adams County, the son of Harvey and Mathilde Clausen Henriksen. 

He married Agnes M. “Aggie” Gisler Nov. 22, 1938, in La Crosse, where they met. They were married for almost 61 years before her death on Sept. 8, 1999.

Leo owned and operated Henriksen Trucking in Redgranite for several years prior to being employed by another trucking company. After retiring from the trucking business, he owned and operated the Henriksen Tree Farm, near Redgranite. Leo shipped and sold trees in Las Vegas for several years, before opening a “choose and cut” Christmas tree business as part of his tree farm, located just west of Redgranite.

He took great pleasure planting, shearing and caring for the trees. He was active in the business, and sheared trees well into his nineties. Leo especially enjoyed meeting the families who would come back each year to purchase the perfect Christmas tree. Leo was there every year until he became ill and entered Juliette Manor Nursing Home in January of 2009.

Active in the community, Leo served for many years on the Redgranite Village Board both as a trustee and as village president. He was a member of the Redgranite Lions Club, Walleyes for Tomorrow, Ducks Unlimited and the Wisconsin Road Builders Association.

Leo was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He traveled to Wyoming for elk hunting for many years. At the age of 94, with the help of his grandsons, he speared his last sturgeon on Lake Poygan.

Leo was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite.

Survivors include his daughter, Darlene (Ron) Mastricola, Redgranite; his son, Russell (Robin) Henriksen, Berlin; three grandsons, Todd (Dawn) Henriksen and Tedd (Ann) Henriksen, both of Berlin, and Rick Henriksen, Green Bay; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Henriksen; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Henriksen. Leo is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his parents, Harvey and Mathilde; two sisters, Agnes Cappelletti and Lenora “Nora” Kolpin; and a brother, Irvin Henriksen.

Funeral services for Leo S. Henriksen were held Sunday, July 25. at 3 p.m. at the Ruminski Funeral Home in Redgranite. Pastor Bryan G. Lundquist officiated. Following these Services, Leo was laid to rest beside his wife, Agnes, in the Redgranite Foster Road Cemetery.

Friends called from noon until 3 p.m. Sunday prior the services at the Ruminski Funeral Home. A Memorial has been established. Ruminski Funeral Home, Redgranite, served the family.


Bonnie Eloise Urban Foster Ebert
Aug. 7, 1920-July 25, 2010

Bonnie Eloise Urban Foster Ebert, born Aug. 7, 1920, in Plainfield, passed peacefully on July 25, 2010, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, surrounded by loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Myrtle Urban; two brothers, Glennon and Clio; her first husband, Alan W. Foster; and her second husband, Harold Ebert.

She is survived by her only daughter, Alana E. Halford; her only grandchild, Janelle Dione Halford; and many nieces and nephews. Her family also included her “adopted” daughter, Beth Feran, and her “adopted” grandchildren, Rachel and Josh Feran, who provided many hours of love and care for Bonnie (and Alana) in the final days.

Bonnie led a full and colorful life, with many trials and tribulations. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Waunakee. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg.
