WASD CHARACTER IN ACTION: Camp Parkside Kindness Zone

The Camp Parkside Kindness Zone students, along with their teachers, Brianna Kulibert and Courtney Vaughan, have been busy spreading kindness throughout the area over the past two weeks.

The Kindness Zone travels to different locations in Wautoma and Redgranite in order to spread joy and participate in community service projects. So far, the class has participated in story time at the Wautoma Public Library, painted rocks to be placed throughout the area, visited the residents at Heartland House, the local assisted living facility.

According to Kulibert, the Kindness Zone plans to make weekly trips to Heartland House to visit the residents and spread joy by creating milk jug flower vases, homemade ice cream and helping to decorate their wheelchairs and walkers for the Fourth of July. Kulibert also said in the coming weeks, the Kindness Zone is planning a trip to Redgranite to visit the Little Sprouts Daycare to volunteer.

The Camp Parkside Kindness Zone is a two-hour class and is geared toward students who enjoy participating in community service and doing kind acts for others. While participating in the activities around the area the students wear Kindness Zone t-shirts, so they are recognizable to community members.

Over the past several years, Wautoma Area School District staff members have collaborated with the guidance counselors to promote character education throughout all four schools. The WASD Character Education Committee believes it is important and necessary for staff, students, parents, and community members to help instill these values in the next generation.

Planning is currently underway for the second district-wide Character Day on Wednesday, October 12, and the committee is looking to get the community involved. Any volunteers or community organizations interested in working with the WASD Character Day Committee should contact Julie Petersen (petersenj@wautoma.k12.wi.us) or Courtney Vaughan (vaughanc@wautoma.k12.wi.us) for more information.
