WASD Character in Education Found at the District Art Show

The Wautoma Area School District held their annual district wide Art Show on May 11 and 12. During the event, the artwork created by students in Kindergarten through Grad 12 was submitted to the show based on the art teachers’ selections. Some of the student pieces shown received an award for the creations themselves.

A new award was also introduced this year. In an effort to embrace the character traits that are recognized as a district, the art department acknowledged some students for strongly displaying those in the art room setting. The following continually demonstrated cooperation, integrity, leadership, responsibility, respect, empathy, and determination during the 2021-22 school year.

Riverview Kindergarten: Cameron Bruce, Miah Bartz, Fletch Premo; Riverview 1st Grade: Maddy Stock, William Vaughan, Walter San Filippo, Jerika Rooney; Riverview 2nd Grade: Evolet Paredes, Tadeo Ruiz, Megan Illetschko; Riverview 3rd Grade: Elena Blader, Connor Novak, Jersey Lorence; Redgranite: Korban Whithall; Parkside 4th Grade: Perla Gomez, Parker Kulibert, Stella Souder, Gavin Giebel, Josiah Haumschild; Parkside 5th Grade: Everly Blader, Grace Sowma, Axton Miller, Harley Hoffman, Kyra Kraft; Parkside 6th Grade: Madeline Zimmerman, Amara Schumacher, Olive Kirwan, Visara Raatz, Aaden Wagner; Parkside 7th Grade: Dallas-Marie Duke, Madeline Reetz, Natalie San Filippo, Izabell Van Aacken, Ricardo Anaya’ Parkside 8th Grade: Meaghan Marks, Molly McLain, Nya Taivalmaa, Ella Woyak, Max Scharnhorst.

Over the past several years, Wautoma Area School District staff members have collaborated with the guidance counselors to promote character education throughout all four schools. The WASD Character Education Committee believes it is important and necessary for staff, students, parents, and community members to help instill these values in the next generation.

Planning is currently underway for the second district-wide Character Day on Wednesday, October 12, and the committee is looking to get the community involved. Any volunteers or community organizations interested in working with the WASD Character Day Committee should contact Julie Petersen (petersenj@wautoma.k12.wi.us) or Courtney Vaughan (vaughanc@wautoma.k12.wi.us) for more information.
