Making the holidays brighter for individuals and families facing financial and other hardships is what the Waushara Holiday Project is about.
On Dec. 15, the Waushara Holiday Project did just that. The project provided holiday food to 490 households and gifts for 700 Waushara County children. In all, nearly 1,500 people were served by the project thanks to the widespread support of area businesses, civic groups, churches, and individuals who bought gifts or made cash contributions to the project.
The project reflects the heart of Waushara County in which neighbors work together to help neighbors. Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma graciously served as the project’s preparation and distribution center. The Waushara County Food Pantry purchased holiday food and teams of volunteers packed over 500 holiday food boxes.
Businesses throughout Waushara County hosted Angel Trees and coordinated toy drives. The Happy Joes men’s group created wooden toys. Community members responded by donating toys and funds used to purchase food and additional gifts to meet the need. Your neighbors spent hours organizing and coordinating event details and teams of volunteers helped distribute food and toys.
Project sponsors include the Wild Rose Kiwanis, The Cupboard, Plainfield SOS, Lions Club of Plainfield, Wild Rose United Methodist Church, Wautoma Kiwanis, Wautoma Chapter #198 OES, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wautoma Booster Club, Chiropractic Health & Wellness Center, Holts Jewelry, Coloma Lions, and Wild Rose Presbyterian Church.
