Christmas celebrations are underway and the McComb-Bruchs Performing Arts Center, Wautoma, will have you singing along with all your favorite Christmas selections at 7 p.m. on Dec. 9. The PAC has scheduled some of the finest entertainment to our area with Hometown Christmas show featuring our own Dalene Fox, the Wild Rose Brass Quintet, and the Wautoma High School Jazz Band as well as the headliner, Empty Pockets.
The Wautoma High School Jazz Band will be playing several of your favorites this Christmas including: Go Tell it on the Mountain, Rudolph’s Mambo, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Sir John, Feliz Navidad, and Wexford Carol. “What makes jazz ensemble especially fun is that we get to play in so many different styles and play unique interpretations of holiday favorites. Students also have ample opportunity to improvise and play solos,” said director Kristin Albright.
2023-2024 Wautoma High School Jazz Band Members include: Rhythm Section - Lily Thomsen-Keller, Evher Hernandez, Cami Culver, James Howen, Hannah Jensen Saxophones: Angel Salinas, Larissa Piechowski, Nelida Rodriguez, Tony Torres Trombones: Thomas Schwartz, Mason Glodoski, Kaydance Blader Trumpets: Dexter Schumacher, Giselle Gomez, and Mya Lohry.
The Wild Rose Brass Quintet is part of the Wild Rose Community Band. Musicians include: Gayle Pierce and Tim Bohn- Trumpets, Rachel Bailey- Horn, Mike Van Pelt- Trombone, Dan Radley- Tuba. Musicians always look for opportunities to perform, and Brass music at Christmas time is a big tradition, so we were excited to get this opportunity, said Dan Radley. All the performers are members of the Wild Rose Community Band, hence we call ourselves the Wild Rose Brass! We’re looking forward to sharing our music!
Wild Rose’s own Dalene Fox, graduated in 2021, now a singer/songwriter, will open for Empty Pockets. She is an accomplished musician playing at establishments throughout Waushara County and beyond. “I have been performing at venues for 6 years in the summers as my summer job. I also do a few random events throughout the rest of the year. But my summers are busy with performing at weddings, restaurants/bars, private events, etc. I currently attend UW-Madison and am in my Junior year. I’m going for elementary education, I love kids! But I also love music, I think it’s a beautiful way for people to connect with one another. I love writing music too, and will do that here and there sometimes in my spare time,” said Dalene. She is multi-talented and will give you her best and bring the holiday spirit to all!
Empty Pockets will be returning to the PAC as the opened and were a backup for All Stewart in September of last year. They loved the venue including great sounds, great audience and vibe. They are so happy to be back and headline the same stage!
The band will be playing their best original songs from their Billboard charting albums and Christmas classics rock and roll style like “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night”, which The Empty Pockets play in an unusual, upbeat, funky way, said Josh Solomon.
Light flickers in even the darkest of spaces and smallest cracks. Similarly, The Empty Pockets ignite a bright flame of their own by harnessing a joyful friction between Americana, folk, and rock ‘n’ roll spiked with roots soul. The Chicago quartet—Josh Solomon [guitar, vocals], Erika Brett [keyboards, vocals], Nate Bellon [bass, vocals], and Adam Balasco [drums]—lean on an unspoken, yet airtight musical dialogue honed by countless miles on the road, performances alongside the likes of Kenny Loggins, a procession of fan favorite releases (including a #1 debut), and a wealth of memories together.
At the show in Wautoma they will play their song, ”Outside Spectrum” from their 2022 album of the same name. However, the musicians shine brighter than ever on their 2023 independent full-length LP, Gotta Find The Moon. “Gotta Find The Moon means, ‘There’s no time, but today’,” explains Josh. “We can’t wait for the daylight in the morning. We have to find the light now in the darkness. The world is so messed up. We don’t have the luxury of waiting for someone else to fix it; we all have to do our little part,” said Josh.
