City of Wautoma holds public hearing for CDBG grant to improve Waupaca Street

Subhead

On April 11th during the Wautoma City Common Council Meeting at city hall, a public hearing was led by Jennifer Trader from MSA Engineers regarding the CDBG (Community Block Development Grant) activities for Waupaca Street.   The proposed grant is for the city to receive $1 million for the proposed project for infrastructure and street scape for Waupaca Street, estimated to  cost $1,800,000.  The cost to the city will be matching funds at $800,000 and will come from general obligation borrowing and the general fund.

Following the presentation by Trader, the board voted to approve MSA’s contract for services and complete the CDBG grant application process at a cost of $11,500.

The city also received an additional Local Roads Improvement Program grant in the amount of $332,900 to be used for 16th Avenue of Bird Creek Park.

The council passed an ordinance to provide authority for fire inspections to be completed as directed under Wisconsin Statutes to enhance the health, safety, and good order of the community and to provide authority to enforce violation of fire regulations in the City of Wautoma.

Wautoma Police Chief Paul Mott said he made a presentation to Wautoma Rotary on the new phosphate aerosol grenade donated by the Wautoma Masonic Lodge.  The grenade is used to disburse fires in a 5,000 sq. ft. area inside a building. This is important as many times the police are the first to be on the scene.  Following the presentation, the Rotary club decided to purchase a second device for the department.

Mayor John Nixon reported the Open Air Market will be held for the first four weeks at Ste. Marie Street and then be moved to the WWII Memorial Building location.  Nixon said the WWII Memorial location gives better visibility, ease of parking, and the park between the WWII and Wautoma Public Library will be used throughout the summer.

The council also approved picnic licenses for the Wautoma Area Chamber of Commerce for the Wine Walk, Music in the Park, and Freedom Fest; an operator’s license for Denise Baumann, Wautoma Chamber; and a Class A Liquor License (bottled wine) for The Nest.

The next meeting of the Wautoma Common Council will be a swearing in of the council and a reorganizational meeting at 6 p.m. on April 19th at Wautoma City Hall.
