Don’t we want our government to work?

Subhead

To the Editor,

When will we get back to expecting our government to do good work for the people – us?  Don’t we expect them to use our tax money to serve the people of our state through programs to fix roads, fund local government services like fire protection, police protection, clean air and water? Why can’t we use our taxes to improve ALL our schools by better funding and support to attract the best teachers and construct or refit our school buildings to keep our children safe and prepare them for lives in the 21st century?

Answer: because we are being distracted from the real work of government by conspiracy theories and culture wars that are dragging us down the proverbial “rabbit hole”.  Government CAN work if WE make it in our democracy.  But we have to pay attention and speak up.  Do we want government to work – provide services, safety and stability?  How to do those things is the work of elected legislators - if they DO the work…and they HAVEN’T!  Or do we want to continue attacking each other with culture wars that encourage hatred of people who are or just think differently than us?

Our Republican-con-trolled legislature has accomplished little to nothing for Wisconsinites, instead spending our money and time to chase conspiracy theories and culture wars.  I vote to make our democracy WORK!
