The Westfield Pioneers took on the Rio Vikings in a non-conference game on Dec. 28.
First on the board was Westfield and it looked as though it was going to be a runaway game in their favor. Rio was struggling to get any three pointers or find the basket on drives. First period score ended in favor of the Pioneers, 25-8.
The second period started off in Westfield’s favor again, however by the final five minute mark, Rio was staging a comeback with a score of 45-19 as Westfield changed the lineup. Rio was able to get in a sudden abundance of points however ran out of time to catch up to Westfield.
The Pioneers claimed the win with a score of 50-37.
Tops scorers for Westfield were Junior Sam Berruecos-Morales with 27, Junior Keegan Hockerman with 12 and Sophomore Austin Lyon.
Top scorers for Rio were Senior Sam Hartley for 16, Senior Carson Grams for 8 and Sophomore Cooper Krakow with 3.
