First bird in Waushara County tests positive for the West Nile Virus


The Waushara County Health Department reports a dead crow found in Waushara County on Aug. 2 has tested positive for West Nile virus.  This is the first bird that tested positive in Waushara County since surveillance for the mosquito-transmitted virus began May 1.

Brush Management

I have received calls requesting information on how to manage or control unwanted growth of brush and small trees. Various invasive species such as buckthorn and autumn olive are very aggressive and will take over a woody area and crowd out other native species of trees. Due to a barrage of advertising, the control most people think of is the use of glyphosate.

What is rabies?

Rabies is a very serious disease that affects the brain and spinal cord of mammals. Cats, dogs, bats, raccoons, coyotes and foxes are mammals, as are people. Rabies is caused by a virus and almost always causes death. It’s usually a disease of animals, but it can spread from an infected animal to a person.

Benefit changes for Wisconsin Veterans

With the recent passing of the budget, there have been some exciting changes to the benefits administered by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA).

The “Wisconsin Veterans and Surviving Spouse Property Tax Credit” grants 100 percent Service Connected Disabled Veterans and their Surviving Spouse, the ability to request a refund of their property taxes.
