Both Class III and Class IV milk prices January through August have been higher each month than last year. The Class III price during this period averaged $17.71 this year compared to $16.23 last year.

Grain markets going down

Current production estimates for corn and soybeans have been increased with the last projection by the US Department of Agriculture. The markets were increasing for a short period of time but now have been slowly working their way back down.

The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. While there are many different flu viruses, a flu vaccine protects against the three viruses that research suggests will be most common. The Flu- Mist vaccine this year, for the first time, protects against four viruses.

During the fall harvest season, more farm equipment will be on rural Waushara County roads and highways so motorists will need to be especially alert, focused, and patient.

Not in Waushara County, but:

Roundabouts are becoming more common in Wisconsin because they provide a safer and more efficient traffic flow than standard intersections. By keeping traffic moving one-way in a counterclockwise direction, there are fewer conflict points and traffic flows smoothly.  When driving a roundabout, the same general rules apply as for maneuvering through any other type of intersection.

New rules allow passing in no passing zones

The fall season means picking pumpkins and apples or checking out the fall colors. It also is a time for slow moving farm equipment on the roads as fall harvest season is underway throughout the state. That means it’s time for all drivers to be especially aware and slow down when encountering slow moving farm equipment.

Successful Winter Wheat Production

Including winter wheat in a farm cropping rotation is an option more grain producers are looking at. University research has shown that corn and soybean yields will increase when wheat is included in the crop rotation. Seed selection should be certified seed that has been germination tested.

Waushara County Crime Stoppers was organized in 1992 as a non-profit corporation.  It is managed by a board comprised of 12 community members that serve on the Board of Directors.  The Board members receive no compensation for performing their duties and serving the community.  They meet at least quarterly to conduct business.
