Bee and Hornet Stings

You may have noticed that the bees and hornets are very active and aggressive as the summer comes to an end and we enter the fall. Their food sources are declining and they are seeking sweet meals. They commonly will try to share your food or drink. This increases your chances of being stung. Bee stings are a common cause of emergency room and doctor’s office visits this time of year.

 
Brix to compete in 2014 Quilt Expo Quilt Contest

Wautoma resident Caryl Brix has three quilts that have been accepted in the 2014 Quilt Expo quilt contest as part of the 10th annual Wisconsin Public Television with Nancy Zieman Quilt Expo held Sept. 4-6 in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

 
Alliant Energy Foundation supports Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program

Alliant Energy Account Manager Mary Brott presented the Alliant Energy Foundation Grant award to Vision 2020: Backpack Nutrition Program Committee members Jan Novak, chair Vision 2020 and Waushara Prevention Council, Inc. and Mary LaBlanc, Backpack Nutrition Program Committee Member-Waushara County Department of Human Services on Aug. 28.

 
FOCS releases two short video ads on dropping water levels

Friends of the Central Sands (FOCS) has released two short video advertisements demonstrating why the fight over Wisconsin’s water is so important. These 15-second videos clearly show the threat to the water resources.  Titled “No More Fishing” and “No More Picnics”, the commercials demonstrate the threat of groundwater pumping to recreation and other uses of Wisconsin’s waters. The videos can be seen by visiting, www.FriendsofCS.org, or are available to download at www.Vimeo.com/FriendsofCS.

 
Bucholtz named new DHS director as Johnson retires

On Sept. 5, Waushara County Director of Human Services Glen Johnson will be passing the reins onto newly appointed director Dawn Bucholtz. Johnson will be retiring from his position after 11 years of service to Waushara County, with 10 of those years serving as the director.
