Ag in the Classroom announces essay topic and Book of the Year

“Why are bees important to Wisconsin Agriculture?” is the topic of the essay contest from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom program.

“Our 2015 Book of the Year is ‘The Beeman’ by Laurie Krebs. The book and essay topic will allow us to educate students about bees and the important role they play in agriculture,” said Ag in the Classroom Coordinator Wendy Kannel. “We will again link the book, the accompanying lessons, various Wisconsin educational resources, and other Ag in the Classroom lessons into resources for teachers, students and volunteers to use in promoting and preparing essays.”

Livestock producers urged to enroll in disaster assistance program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is encouraging producers who have suffered eligible disaster-related losses to act to secure assistance by Sept. 30, as congressionally mandated payment reductions will take place for producers who have not acted before that date.

Equalized values decrease in Wautoma

At the Sept. 8 regular Wautoma Common Council meeting, city administrator/clerk/treasurer Ryan McCue told the council that the city received a notice from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue indicating that the equalized values in the city have decreased from 2013 to 2014, leaving a 7 percent decrease in property values due to economic change.
