Antiques and collectibles appraisal event with Mark Moran Oct. 6 Print E-mail

The Waushara County Historical Society will present an antiques and collectibles appraisal event featuring author and antiques expert Mark F. Moran of Iola on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Waushara County Historical Society Museum, 221 S Saint Marie Street, Wautoma. There will be an appraisal fee for those having their items appraised. Mark Moran was formerly senior editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications in Iola. He has also been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine. He has served as editor of Antique Review East magazine; producer of Atlantique City, an antique show held in Atlantic City, N.J.; and editorial director of F+W Media’s Antiques Group. He was also a guest appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow 2010 tour.

The Augustfest Quilt Show at the WWII Building was a huge success thanks to the efforts of co- chairs Donna Ball and Mary Anne Nielsen.  The Pine Tree Needlers  [PTN] Quilt Guild of Mt. Morris have been presenting the quilt show for over nine years.

The Friends of the Ethel Everhard Memorial Library are hosting an antique and collectibles appraisal event during their silent auction. Mark Moran will be at the Village Hall next to the library on Friday, Aug. 23 from 5-8 p.m.  There is an appraisal fee for your items. A portion of appraisal fees will be donated to the Friends of the Library.

The Rural Rembrandt Art Club held its 65th annual art show July 21 at the World War II Memorial Building in Wautoma. Thirty-two artists exhibited 150 art pieces. The show was very successful with Terry Stanley, a well-known artist and educator as judge.

One of the popular projects the Coloma Area Historical Society undertakes each season is to present month-long special exhibits at the Spalding General Store in June, July and August.  The July exhibit, called “A Stitch in Time,” is an outstanding example of collaboration, a passion for collecting antique sewing machines and history.

Mary Crnkovich has brought a very interesting exhibit to the library. It is an exhibit made up of fiber art. This is a new art form that is becoming very popular to the area.
