Waushara County awarded federal reimbursement from FY2013 SCAAP PDF Print E-mail

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the award of $6,536 to Waushara County to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens who have committed serious crimes in the United States.  The goal of this program is to enhance public safety in communities throughout the nation.

At the Oct. 14 Wautoma Common Council meeting, the council decided to put the former Gables gift shop building up for sale. The council approved putting the building on the market, following a market analysis being completed by a local real estate firm to determine the price the city will ask for the property. The property is zoned for commercial use.

 
70 MPH speed limit bill passes in Transportation Committee PDF Print E-mail

On Oct. 8, the Assembly Committee on Transportation approved Assembly Bill 389 to raise the speed limit to 70 mph on Wisconsin freeways and expressways.

The Hancock Village Board meeting was held on Oct. 14. Mike Voss from MSA reported on the second well. The village has been approved for the Safe Drinking Water Program, which will pay for 60 percent of the cost of the second well or $500,000, whichever comes first. The board will not finalize plans until November when they will be able to see what they are able to in a community block grant.

The Village of Plainfield board met on Oct. 1 in the municipal building. Members present were Dan Reid, Angela Wiese, Wayne Cummings, Amanda Gear, and Jeffery Reabe.

 
Sewer rate increase approved by Neshkoro Board PDF Print E-mail

The Neshkoro Village Board meeting was held on Oct. 7.

The village’s sewer rates were discussed for increase. Discussion included not making any increases until delinquent sewer fees are collected. Currently there are eight residences that have not paid for 2012 and 2013.

 
Berlin Area School District Referendum Oct. 15 PDF Print E-mail

Eligible voters in Waushara County that are in the Berlin Area School District have the opportunity to vote on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The school district is having a special referendum election hoping to get electors’ permission to bond for as much as $18.7 million.

 
Wild Rose Village Board discusses mealsite equipment PDF Print E-mail

The Wild Rose Village Board had a visit from the Waushara County Department of Aging regarding the mealsite’s equipment during an Oct. 2 meeting.

Debbie Paavola of the Department of Aging informed the village that the original contract, which was entered between the two entities regarding the kitchen equipment in the community center for operating the mealsite, has now reached its end. The Department of Aging is now offering complete ownership of the equipment to the Village of Wild Rose, unless it is the village’s desire to renew a contract with the Department of Aging regarding shared maintenance cost for the equipment, and the mealsite can still be operated in the community center.

 
Coloma Village Board discusses community center generator PDF Print E-mail

The Coloma Village Board meeting was held on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The generator for the community center will be installed on Tuesday, Oct. 15. This will result in no electricity at the community center for the morning hours. The community center will be closed during this time.

 
County board overturns request for slaughterhouse zone change in Town of Coloma PDF Print E-mail

The Waushara County Board of Supervisors voted to deny the ordinance requesting a zone change from Agricultural Zoning to Intensive Manufacturing Zoning during the Sept. 17 county board meeting. This is a first step in establishing a slaughterhouse in the Town of Coloma.
