To help recognize National Crime Victim’s Awareness Week, April 6-12, the Redgranite Correctional Institute held a Subway fundraiser where staff and inmates were able to purchase subs to raise money for the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department’s D.A.R.E. Program as well as the Wisconsin Parents of Murdered Children.

A summit addressing the problems and bringing awareness in Waushara County to heroin and prescription drug abuse will be held at the World War II Memorial Building in Wautoma on Thursday, April 24. There will be a light meal and registration from 6-6:30 p.m. with the summit beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Through charitable donations from area residents, organizations, and the Waushara County Crimestoppers, Waushara County Sheriff’s Department’s first official full-time K-9 Unit, Deputy Wally Zuehlke and K-9 Anuk, began patrolling the streets in 2006 after he was officially sworn in by Waushara County Circuit Court Judge Guy Dutcher.
