Throughout the nation, veteran service organizations will soon take to local cemeteries to place small United States flags at the gravestones of veterans who have passed. This goes well beyond the intended purpose where only the graves of those who perished while serving in an armed conflict were “decorated,” and not with flags, but flowers. Thus, a day in spring was set a side for that, and Decoration Day was instituted.
