On Dec. 2, 1946, Robert William Jones was born in Berlin, the son of William and Lola (Georgeson) Jones.  Robert passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, Aug. 21, 2013, at his home in the Town of Leon, rural Redgranite, leaving behind memories of his humor and wit.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and retired from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections as a Captain at Kettle Morraine Correctional in 1997.

He served the citizens of his community as a member of the Waushara County Board representing the Townships of Leon and Poy Sippi.

Robert is survived by his wife: Karen (Heindl) Jones; his mother: Lola Jones, Redgranite; and his children: Maryanne (Doug) Fulton, Scottville, Michigan; Mechelle (Rick) Landaal, Waupun; and Jacqueline Zuhlke, Markesan; grandchildren: Kayla, Cassandra, Morgan, Grant, Adam, Kyle, and Anna; and great-grandchildren: Kennedy and Landon.

He was preceded in death by his father: William; and son-in-law: John Zuhlke.

Bob’s hobbies included spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ham radio, fishing, and riding his motorcycle.

Robert’s heart was as big as he was.  He loved helping those in need and making others laugh.  He cherished the Native American culture, reflecting his desire to better the world.  His motto, “The best sermon is lived not spoken.”

Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ruminski Funeral Home in Redgranite.  Bob’s cousin, Rev. James Harrington, and dear family friend, Rev. Christine Poortenga, will officiate.  Full Military Honors will be rendered at the funeral home following the services.

There will be a time of visiting and sharing of memories on Thursday from Noon until 1:30 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorials will be appreciated for the Poy Sippi Food Pantry in place of flowers.
