Anthony Michael “Tony” Souder, Sr., 69, rural Wautoma, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014, at his home in the Town of Dakota. He was born June 3, 1945 in Berlin, the son of James Leo and Catherine Frances (Schrock) Souder. He was raised on the family farm near Redgranite and was a 1963 graduate of the Wautoma High School.
Tony married Helen Louise Boeck on June 5, 1971 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wautoma. Helen preceded Tony in death March 9, 2013 after nearly 42 years of marriage.
In his early years, Tony worked on the family farm and also drove tractor for Roman Piechowski on his farm. Tony was a truck driver for most of his life. He was employed at Caves Trucking in Wautoma for about six years. He worked at Weiland Trucking in Wautoma for over 40 years until he retired at age 66.
He was a great husband, dad, and brother. You could ask him for anything, and he would find a way to do it for you. He was a man of few words, but he meant what he said. Tony enjoyed spending time with his friends over a cup of coffee at El Popo Restaurant in Wautoma.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Tony, Jr. and Nikki, and granddaughter: Stella, Wautoma; his brothers and sisters: Leo (Judy) Souder, Ripon; Mary (David) Homier, Peter Souder, and Christine (John) Gies, all of Redgranite; and Annamae (Terry) Meigher, Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law: Diane Godson, Ripon; and Christine (Kenneth) Erdmann, Lohrville (Redgranite); nieces, ne-phews, other relatives, and good friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife: Helen; his parents; a brother: Raymond Souder; a nephew: Mike Homier; a brother-in-law: Floyd Boeck; a sister-in-law: Lorena Kaping; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Charlotte and Frederick Boeck.
Funeral services for Anthony “Tony” Souder, Sr. will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 228 Church Street, Redgranite (westside of Redgranite, 2 blocks south of Highway 21, turn south at the car wash.) Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Ruminski Funeral Home in Redgranite, and then at the Church from 9 a.m. on Saturday until the time of services.
Following these services, Tony will be laid to rest beside his wife, Helen, in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Auroraville. A Memorial has been established.
