|Local control of siting of livestock facilities taken away|

The Wisconsin Livestock Siting Law passed in 2004 and implemented by Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) 51 in 2006 effectively took away local control of the siting of livestock facilities within our communities in favor of making a more predictable statewide rule and path for the expansion of large Concentrated Animal Feed Operations (CAFOs) more commonly known as Factory Farms. By looking at expansion of the industry alone, the law has been a success, the CAFO industry has grown from only 2 CAFO’s in Wisconsin in 1995 to over 235 today.
