Nellie M. Jorgensen, 95, Saxeville, passed away peacefully Feb. 5, 2014 at home in the presence of her loving family. Nellie was born at home in Irving, on Feb. 12, 1918.  Nellie was the daughter of Phillip and Gayla (Davis) Nutter, the oldest of five children. She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1936. On June 27, 1937 Nellie married Vernon A. Jorgensen in Racine. They lived and made their home in Waukesha for 17 years where they raised two children, Mary Ellen (Jorgensen) Erdman and Richard A. Jorgensen. In 1952 the family moved to Saxeville where Nellie and Vernon owned and operated the Saxeville General Store until 1972. She continued working with her husband as secretary for Vernon Jorgensen & Son Excavating and Grading.

She was very involved in the community, serving as Town of Saxeville Treasurer, active member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church, co-founder of the Leon-Saxeville Library, officer in the Saxeville Improvement Association, member of the Wild Rose Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross and active in local and state politics. Nellie was an organizer, leader, a great volunteer and worker in activities which supported the community, schools and individuals needing assistance. She was the banker, chauffer, caretaker and hot meal provider for many elderly and needy persons. She was kind, caring and always willing to help others. If you needed something done, Nellie was the “go to gal.”

Nellie is survived by her sisters: Joyce (Nutter) Brand, Vera Beach, FL, and Beverly (Nutter) Wood, Colorado Springs, CO; son: Richard and Catherine (Pratt) Jorgensen, Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Jill Jorgensen Bagwell, Bremerton, WA,

Visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Saxeville. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow. A luncheon will follow the conclusion of the service at the church.
