Arden Walter Matthias, 78, of rural Redgranite, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 18, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He had been in failing health for the past months.

Arden was born June 20, 1935 in Wautoma, a son of Albert and Hattie (Erdman) Matthias. He was raised in the Redgranite area and was a 1954 graduate of Wautoma High School. Following his graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for four years, both in the United States and overseas.

He married Marjorie Rank on April 17, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Berlin.

Arden was a member of the 440th. Tactical Airlift Wing in Milwaukee from 1960 until he retired in 1985. He was Chief of Administration at the time of his retirement.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Neshkoro. Arden enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the Casinos. Most of all, he loved his family.

Survivors include: Marjorie, his wife of 57 years; his daughters and son: Pamela (the late Gary) Kozlowski, Wautoma; Ronald (Lori) Matthias, Snellville, GA; Judi (Jon) Iverson, East Troy; and Sharon (Greg) Porcaro, Whitewater. Arden is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister: Gerry (Mickey) Jungenberg, Redgranite; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Russell and Barbara Rank, Oshkosh; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by a son: Kenneth; his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law; two brothers: Wilbur and Harold Matthias; and a sister: Karen Prellwitz.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at St. James Place, Highway 73 in Neshkoro. (St. James Place is located just North of St. James Catholic Church.) Father Dale Grubba, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Full Military Honors will be rendered for Arden following the Mass at St. James Place.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at St. James Place prior to the Mass, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday only.

The Ruminski Funeral Home of Redgranite is assisting the family with arrangements.
