The board voted to approve three part-time, non-sworn deputies for courtroom security during the county board meeting on Oct. 15. There will be at least one deputy in the courthouse every day during court proceedings. The officers will be unarmed, as the safety and executive committees believe that having a uniformed officer present will deter a lot of the negative activities. The officers will have radio contact with the sheriff’s department, handcuffs, pepper spray, and will wear sheriff’s department uniforms. Law enforcement officers will still be utilized for transport and high-risk individuals/hearings.
