Resident encourages involvement in funds distributed through American Rescue Plan Act

Dear Editor,

We are proud to be members of the small towns and rural communities of Waushara County. Woods, waters, and open spaces define this place that is so important to us. We find support and a network of friends in our schools, churches, civic organizations and social gatherings.

Some of us have called this region home for generations. Some of us have moved here after recognizing this area as a place of opportunity and welcome. Some of us chose this as our home after vacationing here. All of us want to care for this place and our neighbors.

One way to act on behalf of our homes and our neighbors is to assure that we have the structures and networks in place that will support health, safety and prosperity. In March of 2021, passing of the American Rescue Plan Act afforded federal tax funds to our local communities for priorities such as public health, water, sewer, broadband, affordable housing and aid for industries such as tourism, travel, and hospitality that have been negatively impacted by the current health crisis.

Fundamental discussions about how each of our area communities utilize these available funds are focused on our homes and our neighbors. For the benefit of our towns, villages and cities now is a good time to come together as individuals with shared interests. Let us commit to turn to one another and away from divisive rhetoric so that we our better able to accomplish our shared goals.

Respectfully,

Christine A. Gordon
