To the Editor

My grandson’s 18th birthday on Oct. 25, 2020, allowed him to vote for the first time ever. He studied the candidates and could hardly wait. For many young people, voting is a major step to adulthood. For most Wisconsinites voting has been important and fundamental to our democracy. However, some Wisconsinites feel that voting is useless.

To help you understand the importance of passing the Freedom to Vote Act now under discussion in Congress, join Fair Maps Midstate and their sponsors (League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area, The Commoners, The Farmers’ Union) at 1 p.m. on Jan. 22 either via Zoom or in person at the WWII Memorial Center in Wautoma. The Zoom link can be found at Fair Maps website or the ad in the Waushara Argus referring to a “Community Forum.”

Topics for discussion will lead from gerrymandering to redistricting to voting rights. Rather than ignoring the voices of legitimate voters, help secure the voting rights for all who are eligible. My hope is that my younger grandchildren and yours will feel confident that their votes count.
